I have been a Montessori preschool and kindergarten teacher for over 25 years. The focus of my teaching has been to bring the children to the awareness of the present moment, to learn problem solving with active listening skills and to take the time to relax and find their peaceful place within. To accomplish this, I have been on a journey to find my own peaceful place.
I have 7 years of Tai Chi experience with the International Yang Tai Chi Association for which I earned a Silver Eagle medal. I hold my 200 Hour YTT Certificate from Riverflow Yoga, and my 500 Hour YTT certificate from Yoga of Energy Flow. I have taken classes and workshops on various themes related to the subtle energies of the body. I also have 200 Hours of children’s teacher training from Creative Kids Yoga, as well as certification in Yoga for Autism and Special Needs.
In addition to a love of teaching children, I have developed a love of Yin Yoga. This gentle form of yoga has helped to open up my stiff joints, and perhaps more importantly, to open my body and my mind to the possibilities that yoga has to offer. I am excited to continue to share this reflective form with other adults.
In addition to yoga I enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking and travel with my wonderful husband; I also love to read. Being a teacher happily brings out the creative side of me. I have two amazing children and two equally amazing grandchildren with whom I love to spend time.
What to expect in my class
The focus of my adult classes is to release stress and relax the body and mind. Slow methodical movements are enhanced by long holds and deep breathing. We often begin with strong, active yang-like poses and end with supported yin-like poses. Once a month the entire class is devoted to yin. Poses are seated or on your back and held for time in order to stimulate the ligaments in the joints. My classes usually end with guided meditations.
